In the afternoon I was on the 1 train riding home when a woman sat down next to me. She had a little
baby boy, a few months old, sitting in her arms. After a little while I felt a hand touching
my arm. I turned and saw the infant
smiling. I smiled and waved, and
then he smiled and waved, and the mom smiled.
Any time I thought he was done and was curious about something else, I
turned my head away only to feel a tug on my arm, and see that amazing look of
wonder in his eyes. Then his mom put a
bottle in his mouth, and I realized that someone had done that for me for a
very long time too. In a way, the world always is.
