I am home!
I do not want anything for Christmas. Being with my family is enough. I already have so much. I have been very lucky this year.
It is much better being with my family this year, as opposed to alone in a room in San Francisco.
Even so, one of my students gave me a present today. And no, I don't give grades, so it wasn't a bribe. He gave me a clock being carried by an elaborate elephant. Elephants always remind me of Ganesha, the Indian God who is the patron saint of letters and is invoked during writings sessions. Perhaps this new elephant clock can help me with my book.
Of course, that reminds me of some writing that came together thanks to the patron of letters back in April. Read this link for more about Ganesha and the peaceful spirit of the universe. I realize that it contains just about everything I believe to be relevant to the holiday spirit. It also reminds me of the holiday season one year ago in California.
I feel most fortunate to be with loved ones this year. Sometimes I hear about the people who make money by arguing about some sort of attack on the holiday and how it has to be about a guy a lot of people love, and sometimes I hear about other people who are offended by it. Well, as far as I can tell, nobody present in my family's home believes in any of that specific dogma from the group that claims to have tabs on the spirit of the event, but we still celebrate it every year. Why bother? Because it's nice to synchronize a day where a lot of people are loving their families and giving to each other. It's that simple. Of course, if some people simply weren't brought up with that day and were brought up with another day, the more the merrier! Share it with more people! The world needs more days for celebrating such virtues.
