I got up an hour early to look at an apartment today, but the man who was supposed to show it to me never showed up despite my confirming it last night and calling him repeatedly this morning. I still got into the building and was able to knock on the door, and finally one of the residents opened it bleary-eyed and explained that this has been happening a lot lately, although overall it is a legitimate situation. One of the rooms was 23 and the other was 33, and as I waited outside room 33 I had a feeling that I was wherever I was supposed to be, even if it all seemed a waste of time.
Then I went to work and started with a completely new group of students for my 10 am, which had previously been advanced students, but is now level 5, which is before advanced. There are also technically many advanced classes with different focuses, so the students I just left were actually several levels above this class. I mention that to show the absurdity that we are using the exact same textbook as I just used the previous five weeks for the higher level class. I am annoyed at using a boring textbook again, but that's just me. The important part is that most of the students appear unable to handle the material. I brought this up to my supervisor and she said that the normal book for that level is out of print for three more weeks, and by then the course will be over halfway through, so I'll just have to be a magic teacher.
Then again, the following class, which began last week, has an amazing book suited to their level. Today we learned about grammar through the context of poetry, including Matsuo Basho, Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost. We also learned about Viggo Mortensen, the king in Lord of the Rings.
After that has been a lot of reading on the subway and trying to hash out details with the only apartment to successfully get back to me and show me the place.
I guess we will see which place will be my next place to be.
