I wonder who is in charge of the timing of gifts.
The parents told me that a card would suffice for the holiday because I'm saving to get into my own room in a few days, so I wrote them each a list of everything they had provided for me in life for which I am thankful. I waited until all of the other presents had been exchanged though, which made it even stranger to open up my first present and find it was a book called Giving Thanks, an assortment of famous quotes and verses about being thankful.
Then I opened another gift from my mother and it's called Food Rules by Michael Pollan. The book is about healthy food choices, and describes how we should avoid foods with lots of manufactured and processed materials. Then I opened my next gift, from my sister, and it was a dozen donuts from Dunkin' Donuts, which I haven't had in forever. I was happy to share them, and even happier to wash one down with some special Japanese green tea given to me by my cousin on Monday.
The first thing I noticed after arriving home and getting out of the car last night was the glory of the stars in the country sky.
Here are my favorite songs that make me feel the energy of the season:
JOY
